James begins his letter by addressing scattered believers whose faith is being tested through trials. Drawing from his own transformation from unbelief to devoted service, James points Christians to the risen Christ, who strengthens living faith and brings it to maturity. Trials are not evidence that God has abandoned His people, but instruments He uses to produce steadfastness, obedience, and Christlike character.
