Psalm 13 records David’s raw lament as he wrestles with the painful sense that God has forgotten him: his thoughts have spiraled into despair and his enemies appear to be prevailing. Drawing from the psalm’s clear three-part movement, we see how David moves from honest complaint, through bold petition for light and deliverance, to a decisive trust in the Lord’s steadfast covenant love that leads him to rejoice in God’s salvation and sing His praise. Through this study we discover that trials are not signs of God’s abandonment, but the very means by which the covenant-keeping God weans and matures His people in Christ.
